What does copyright mean to you?
If you are the original creator of something, then you hold the copyright to that content. The content might be text, an image, music, or anything else. If you are not the creator of the content, then you should not use it on your site, unless you have permission to do this. Where do you get permission? From the copyright holder. Contact someone at the location you found the content for this permission.

Hotlinking: Hotlinking means that the image on your site is not being displayed from a file on your account, but rather from another site. Doing this normally is a copyright violation, but is also a problem since the bandwidth used to show the image on your site is coming from someone else's account.

What does hotlinking mean to you?
If you want to use an image on your site, and you have permission to use it, then you must upload it to your account. This prevents you from using bandwidth that does not belong to you. Upload the image to your account, then place the image on your site.

Defamation: An attack on the good reputation of a person. If you are speaking about someone in a way that they may not approve, then you are defaming them. Content which is intended to injure another person's reputation is a violation.
